Semarang, March 24, 2025 – The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, welcomed Dr. Ianatul Khoiroh, Associate Professor from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, to deliver a guest lecture on Monday, March 24, 2025. The session highlighted innovative strategies in sustainable biowaste treatment, focusing on Open-Air Composting (OAC) and In-Vessel Composting (IVC) technologies. This activity is part of the faculty’s continuous effort to enrich academic insight on sustainable environmental practices and circular economy within the agro-industrial sector.
During the session, Dr. Khoiroh introduced various organic waste management approaches and emphasized the importance of composting in reducing environmental impact. She elaborated on the characteristics, advantages, and limitations of both OAC and IVC systems, supported by her own research findings involving the treatment of Soybean Curd Residue (SCR) a common high-moisture industrial waste. The presentation provided an in-depth look at composting parameters, microbial activity, and soil health indicators relevant to sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Khoiroh’s lecture not only showcased academic expertise but also aimed to inspire collaborative research and innovation in waste valorization. Participants ranging from students, to researchers, gained valuable perspectives on practical biowaste applications in the local and global context. The guest lecture served as a bridge to promote environmentally responsible technologies and their implementation in Indonesia’s food and agriculture industry.
“Sustainable biowaste management is not just about waste reduction, it’s about transforming waste into value. Through appropriate composting technologies, we can support both environmental health and resource efficiency,” said Dr. Ianatul Khoiroh during her presentation.
This guest lecture is part of UNDIP’s commitment to fostering global academic exchange and advancing knowledge on sustainable food systems. More activities under the internationalization program will follow throughout the year to support UNDIP’s vision as a world-class university.
