Diponegoro University, in collaboration with University of Muhammadiyah Semarang, held a general lecture titled “Microencapsulation as an Innovation of Added Value of Local Materials” on Thursday, 24 April 2025. The event took place at the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Science, Diponegoro University. The general lecturer was aiming to explore innovative technologies that can enhance the economic and functional value of Indonesia’s local food resources. This lecture is part of the Postdoctoral Domestic Assistance Program (PPDN), which was awarded to the Food Technology Study Program of Diponegoro University in collaboration with the Food Technology Study Program of University of Muhammadiyah Semarang. The program is supported by the World Class University (WCU) Program and funded through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing academic research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and food innovation at both national and international levels.

The lecture featured Dr. Yunan Kholifatuddin Sya’di, S.TP., M.Sc., an expert from Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang, who shared insights into microencapsulation technology. This talked about an advanced method of enclosing bioactive ingredients in food to improve stability, shelf life, and controlled release. This lecture was attended by students from food technology study program underlining the rising interest in sustainable and value-driven food innovation. Dr. Yunan emphasized, “Indonesia has abundant local food materials with great potential. Through microencapsulation, we can increase their market value and open new economic opportunities while maintaining their nutritional and functional properties.”

The general lecture also served as a platform to strengthen cooperation between Universitas Diponegoro and Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang in applied food technology and innovation. The organizers hope the knowledge shared will inspire more research and commercialization efforts using local resources. drh. Siti Susanti, PhD., as PIC who is receiving Postdoctoral Program Fund, stated, “We believe this event not only broadens academic horizons but also plays a role in strengthening the innovation ecosystem for Indonesia’s food sovereignty.” Participants expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the relevance of the topic to local industry challenges.
