TROPICAL RESEARCH GROUP OF UNIVERSITAS DIPONEGORO LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL SUMMER COURSE ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL LIVESTOCK GENETIC RESOURCES

Semarang, Indonesia – June 3, 2026 – The Tropical Research Group of the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), officially launched the International Summer Course 2026 entitled “Advancing Productivity and Genetic Resources of Local Livestock under Tropical Condition” on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The program is being conducted online through Zoom Meetings throughout June 2026.

The summer course serves as a platform for international academic exchange and capacity building in the field of tropical livestock science. The program reflects Universitas Diponegoro’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through education, research collaboration, and innovation in sustainable livestock production.

The opening ceremony was officially inaugurated by Dr. Asep Setiaji, Head of the Tropical Research Group, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro. In his welcoming remarks, he emphasized the importance of strengthening international collaboration to enhance the productivity and conservation of local livestock genetic resources, which play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable food systems and livestock resilience in tropical regions.

The Summer Course has attracted participants from a diverse range of countries, including Indonesia, Nigeria, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Ghana, and Pakistan. Participants represent various professional backgrounds, including undergraduate and graduate students, academics, researchers, and industry practitioners who share a common interest in tropical livestock development and genetic resource management.

To provide comprehensive and up-to-date perspectives, the program features distinguished experts with extensive experience in animal genetics, breeding, reproduction, and biotechnology.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in a series of lectures, scientific discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions covering contemporary topics in animal genetics, breeding strategies, reproductive technologies, and biotechnology applications for improving livestock productivity under tropical conditions.

The Summer Course is expected to strengthen international academic networks and foster collaborative research initiatives among universities, research institutions, and stakeholders from different countries.
