Community Service Team from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University (FPP Undip) visited Dungus Hamlet, Mundu Village, Tulung District, Klaten Regency on 29 June 2022. This activity is the first step for the community service team to assist the Mukti Andini Livestock Farmer Group with the theme “Prevention and Control of Mouth and Nail Diseases (PMK)”.

An outbreak of a virus that causes nail and mouth disease (PMK) began to spread in Klaten district, especially at the Mukti Andini Summit, Mundu Village, Tulung District, Klaten Regency. According to the explanation from the Head of the Summit, Mukti Andini, nearly 85% of dairy cattle were infected with the FMD virus.

In this activity the Community Service Team of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University (FPP Undip) provided assistance to farmers with the initial step of taking an approach so as not to worry for cows that had contracted the FMD virus.

Standard operating procedures for preventing the spread of PMK include biosecurity for livestock, cages, equipment, vehicles, visitors, employees and goods. Tips for handling dairy products through boiling boiled milk or at least pasteurization, heated at 72⁰ C and disinfection of milk storage containers.
