At the beginning of 2025, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) successfully improved its ranking in the Animal Science sector according to EduRank. From its 2024 position of 1st in Indonesia and 4th in Asia, Undip advanced to 1st in Indonesia and 2nd in Asia in 2025. This achievement must be upheld by the Bachelor of Animal Science (BAS) study program under the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip). One key strategy to sustain and enhance this success is International Academic Networking (IAN). This initiative receives funding support through Undip’s World-Class University Program 2025.

One of the activities was done by Ir. Daud Samsudewa, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., IPM, Secretary of BAS FAAS Undip, from 23rd February to 1st March 2025. His visit included academic engagements at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).

The first key event was held on Monday, 24 February, at the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), UPLB. It was an international community service program with the theme “Improvement the frozen semen quality in Philippine Carabao Center UPLB Philippines to support SDGs 2.” Alongside this event, an agreement was reached to commence academic collaboration, including fieldwork for BAS FAAS Undip students in January 2026. “This community service project is significant for improving the frozen semen quality of carabaos, a key product of our institution,” said Dr. Thelma A. Saludes, Agricultural Centre Chief IV at PCC.

The continuation activity placed in Villegas Hall Animal and Dairy Science College UPLB is the socialization of the Diponegoro Global Scholarship (DGS) for prospective Master and Doctor of Animal Science students. “This socialization of scholarship opens up the opportunities for UPLB students to continue their study at Universitas Diponegoro,” said Dr. Renato S.A. Vega, Professor of Animal Science UPLB Philippines.

Daud Samsudewa also joined the workshop Agri-innovator program held by SEARCA from Tuesday to Thursday, 25th-27th February 2025. This workshop was followed by 21 innovators from 6 ASEAN countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The workshop resulted in the improvement of innovation in animal science entitled “Livestock Daily Living, the way to improve the independence of special needs children to reach their bright Future”. Daud Samsudewa was also awarded 2nd Best Pitching in this workshop.

The last activity of international academic networking is a discussion about the continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding between UPLB and Undip with the Chancellor University of The Philippines Los Banos, Jose V. Camacho, Jr., Ph.D. and Office Institution Linkages UPLB Supervisor, Prof. Nica Arganosa. “Continuation of collaboration between UPLB and Undip must be optimum and give impact to both institutions,” said Chancellor Camacho, Jr., Ph.D.

“The international community services, research, and academic collaboration will improve the existence of BAS FAAS Undip,” said the Head of BAS FAAS Undip, Ir. Rudy Hartanto, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM.

“The collaboration through international academic networking in Philippines and ASEAN will improve the achievement of Universitas Diponegoro in the Animal Science sector,” closed The Dean of FAAS Undip, Prof. Sugiharto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D.
